Geocache Description:

This cache is placed about 7 km from Amaterdam on the way to Piet Retief. The area is actually very amazing if you have time to explore it. I've placed the cache close to the main road, before the bridge crossing the Nwempisi (leopard) river, to make it easy for a quick grab if you just pass by.
The area stand out amongst the graslands and pine plantations, because of the rock formations in the area (from there the Afrikaans name Skurwerandjies, which can directly be translated as rough ridges). If you have time, you can cross the bridge, on the other side is a small road going down to a picnic site (which I must say is a bit neglected.) Explore the river side, it is beautiful. Down stream there is a waterfall, but I dont know how far, If anybody know -please log it. I was last there as a child on a sunday school picnic!
Upstream from the cache it is even more beutiful with many "kranse" and beuatiful rock formations. It is also home of one the red data bird species in South Africa - Kalkoen Ibis (does anybody konw their english name). Another colony stays at the Bourke Luck potholes, close to Graskop.
On top of the hills, I've seen fossils of fish bones and shells -which is confirmation of the big inland lake that existed many moons ago.
