Geocache Description:

This cache is the third in a series that deal with Amarillo's more frightning side.

Ghost Plane

****Due to restrictions about placing caches near Airports I had to place this cache in the closest public place which is Llano Cemetery. Tradewind Airport is located about 100 yards directly south, easily viewable from this location. But as a result this cache is only available until sundown when they lock the gates****This is a micro, so bring your own pen, and is well camouflaged so please put it back EXACTLY as you found it.

Back many years ago when Tradewinds Airfield was a private airstrip, every evening a local pilot would take his mistress on a flight in his personal airplane. Unbeknownst to him, one of those evenings his wife had been driving by and saw him taking off in their plane with another woman. Well needless to say, she was beside herself with rage, and snuck into their hanger and waited for them to return. After their flight when her husband and his lady friend retuned she confronted the two, a huge argument broke out that culminated with her shooting them both and promptly committing suicide. The legend states that if you stand out on the tarmac in the evening, sometimes you can pick up the faint smell of lilacs or perfume. And when the environment is just right you can hear the argument that took place and even the gunshots. Legend even has it that once a year on the anniversary of the murders you can see what would appear to be a ghost airplane taxing back to an old abandoned hanger. Please remeber these are legends whether they are true or not is for you to decide.
