UPDATE! 8/8/11 just after 9pm a 3.3 Quake with a depth of about 6 miles hit 14.9 miles directly North of my cache. Anything more to come?
If your going North on 95 make sure to stop at my "Epicenter Scotty's Jct." Cache (GCZ03G). Just south of Goldfield, NV..
This cache is along HWY 95 near the Amargosa Valley boundary marker. Looking north you will see a small valley know as "Rock Valley". The Rock Valley fault starts way up in Test site territory, going through Little Skull Mt, Rock Valley(this cache) and running past the mountain toward your south (The Spectar Range). Little Skull Mountain which sits SE of Yucca Mountain was the site of a 5.6 earthquake on June 29, 1992. Water levels in wells around Skull Mountain rose 3.6ft after the quake and our well in Amargosa was pumping muddy water for 30min afterwards. That quake did damage a field operations building at Yucca Mountain. On June 14, 2002 a 4.4 quake hit 12 SE of Yucca Mt. There have been 11 quakes since 1970 measuring 4.0 and larger in this area, numerous earthqukes in the 3 point magnitude have been recorded. Some just miles north and south of this cache. This quake and others were linked to be directly related to the stress from the 7.3 Landers, CA quake of June 28th 1992.
