Kongscut Mountain is located in East Glastonbury in the Meshomasic State Forest, New England’s oldest state forest, which provides a rich habitat to a variety of wildlife. Meshomasic is believed to be a Native American name for “the place of many snakes” or “the great snake.” There are timber rattlesnakes in this area so be careful.
The cache is a small ammo can, located on the summit of Kongscut Mountain. Both parking and the trailhead are located on Goodale Hill Road. At the trailhead follow the unmarked trail, which will take you through a beautifully forested area full of erratic boulders. The trail then makes a quick moderately difficult accent up to the summit of Kongscut Mountain. Once on the summit be mindful of young children, as there are cliffs nearby the cache location.
If you enter at other locations be aware of property lines; the base of Kongscut Mountain is surround by private property with only a few places that are accessible via public land.
The summit is about 809 feet above sea level, once at the top enjoy the views and explore. For those interested, there is also a letterbox located on the summit as well. Enjoy the adventure.
