Geocache Description:

See update!

Only the adventurous and brave dare venture past Hagrid’s Forest in search of Hagrid’s Heart. The terrain is tricky, the perils many, and the maze of trails will have you lost in a heartbeat.

[Nov 2020 update: They put in a metal fence to keep the horses from the road and it leads directly to the cache now. No more maze of trails and no need to follow the waypoints.] If you are bold enough to travel through… and past… Hagrid’s Forest and venture into the heart of this scorched and scarred wilderness, you will have a pleasant surprise waiting.

There was once a rumor of a flying fire breathing dragon that roamed the area around Hagrid’s Forest. The area was perfectly fit for a dragon, abundant wild cows and horses to feast on, plenty of fresh water to drink, and far enough from the encroachment of humans to make it easy to hide. Hagrid himself once ventured into this part of the forest in search of the dragon. Although there were numerous patches of burnt earth proving the dragon had hunted there, Hagrid never found this elusive dragon, but he did find the entrance to the dragon’s lair … and an abundance of other wildlife, including horses, snakes, and a nesting Heron or Crane. He also found some very pleasing scenery. This area with its breathtaking views of the river, and contrasting views of the dead and burnt twisted trees, captured Hagrid’s heart just as it had the dragon’s.

On your visit to Hagrid’s Heart be sure to bring water, have fresh batteries in your GPS, stay on existing trails as much as possible, track or remember your path so you don’t get lost, and look up… keeping watch for the dragon, over hanging branches… and Hagrid’s Heart. If you are so inclined please post in your logs the various wildlife you observed on your visit.
