Kvarven friluftsområde er et skogkledd turområde med krigsminner og fine utsiktspunkter som strekker seg fra Gravdal og opp mot Lyderhorn. Kvarven fort var en del av Bergen Befestninger og stod ferdig i 1898/99. Letteste atkomst er med bil til Gravdal og videre via NUTEC til parkeringsplassen. Følg Gravdalsveien til endes og videre opp Gravdalsbakken. Parkeringsplassen er også et mye brukt utgangspunkt for en fjelltur til Lyderhorn, en av Bergens 7-fjell. Fra parkeringen er det vei med fast dekke. Området er fortsatt militært, der BOF etter avtale med Forsvaret, har bruksrett til en del av området.
Kvarven ble høytidelig åpnet som frilufts- og krigsminneområde 8. mai 1993. Området har toalett, og det er informasjonstavler for Kvarven både ved avkjøring i Gravdal og inne på området. Ved enden av veien (innfallsporten til fjellområdet) er det informasjonstavle for turløyper i Byfjellene Vest. Området har handikapparkering nede og oppe.

The Kvarven outdoor recreation area is a wooded hiking area that includes the remains of military fortifications and offers fine viewpoints stretching from Gravdal up to Lyderhorn mountain. Kvarven Fort, which was completed in 1898-99, was one of a network of defensive forts built around Bergen. The easiest access is by car to Gravdal and onward past NUTEC to the car park. Follow Gravdalsveien road to the end and then continue up Gravdalsbakken hill. The car park is a popular starting point for hiking trips to Lyderhorn, one of Bergen’s seven mountains. A paved road continues past the car park. The area is still a military zone; however, through an agreement with the Norwegian Armed Forces, BOF has rights to the use of a portion of the area.
In a ceremony on May 8, 1993 Kvarven was inaugurated as an outdoor recreation area and war monument. The area has toilets, and information signs for Kvarven are located both at the turnoff at Gravdal and within the area. At the end of the road (which is the entrance to the mountain area) is a Bergen Hiking Association (Bergen Turlag) information sign for the walking trails in Bergen’s western mountains (Byfjellene Vest). Handicap parking is available at the lower and upper ends of the road.
