Geocache Description:

One of six caches placed at or near Enniskillen Bridges. This is a key safe. BRING A PEN/PENCIL.

Enniskillen is the County town of Fermanagh and is situated on an island 800 metres long and covering some 68 acres. The original boundaries were the East and West Bridges and only someone born between these bridges can claim to be a true native of the town.

This series will take you to the boundaries of the island and is best done on foot, with the possible exception of the bonus cache. Inside caches 2 - 5 is one digit of the coordinates for the final bonus cache ‘Enniskillen Bridges #6’.

You should record them and use them in the following formula to find its location:-

N54 2E.2BC W007 (2+B)(C-B) . DED

The West Bridge is also known as the Erne Bridge. Including the current bridge there have been five bridges on this site. The original wooden structure dating from the early 1600’s was replaced in 1698 by a stone bridge with 8 arches. This was superseded in 1775 by a bridge with 3 arches and in 1825 another bridge was built at a cost of £2500. The present bridge was constructed between 1885 and 1892.

The Castle Bridge was built alongside the Erne Bridge in 1981 as part of a bypass to relieve traffic congestion at the west end of the town and this is where the cache is placed. Good views of Castle Island and the Watergate can be had from here.
