Geocache Description:

Taken together this cache and its sister cache, "Wild Life", contain the coordinates (found on first page of respective logs) needed for "Mud Pond and Beyond". Mud Pond is an area teaming with a variety of wildlife (mainly birds), so don't forget your binoculars!

The Alice McCallister Preserve is named for the founding president of Weantinoge Heritage Land Trust who set the bar for preserving precious land in northwestern Connecticut. Today, northwestern CT is (thankfully) populated by numerous land trusts that continue the work that Mrs. McCallister started over 40 years ago.

From the trailhead/parking go to "bear right" waypoint which is AFTER what you would have thought was the turn to take. After a short hoof up the hill "bear left" (see waypoint) to stay on the old trail (following blue hiker markers) to the cache and overlook.

The terrain is really more like a "2-2.5" but I had to give it a 3 for the risk at the final. Stay away from the edge or you will risk injury (or worse).

Please stay on the trail side of the ridge and make sure to close the gate at the trailhead when you enter & leave.
