Geocache Description:

A pleasant riverside walk in a hidden part of county Wexford leading to a crumbling industrial building.

This cache is located a couple of miles from the village of Castlebridge. Park at N52 23.180 W6 27.973. Please do not block the gate or drive down the track. It's an access road for ESB vehicles.

Walk down the road and through the next gate on your left. You should now find yourself walking through a tranquil forest, following the course of a river. With any luck birds will be singing and you may even see a squirrel. This path is generally quiet and on a sunny day it's a delightful walk. If it's particularly warm, you could bring a picnic.

After a couple of kilometres you will come to a relatively modern building which is connected to the curious engineering works further along the path. These all seem to be some manner of hydro-electricity generating station. While these works may seem to spoil the walk somewhat, you will soon see that there is continuity between the these modern machines and the cache location.

As you emerge beyond the waterfall, you will see the ruins of an earlier attempt to harness the power of this river. The ruined mill building beyond hints at what must have been a significant industrial complex in its day. Unfortunately I have not been able to find any information about the name or history of this site. Carefully scramble up the bank to your left and start exploring. Directly across the bridge is a curious man-made canal channel and some industrial bits and pieces. The main mill building is slowly being reclaimed by ivy and moss, but is an interesting place to explore. Mind your step, as it can be steep and slippery. A large circular beam, which I assume is the "axle" for the mill wheel remains intact.

The cache is an ammo box. Please leave it covered when you have replaced it. GPS coverage may be poor here, so bring the spoiler photo.
