Jerald Barry struck a heavy object while working a field on his property at St. Peter's Harbour on August 9, 1870. It turned out to be the bell from the St-Pierre-du-Nord Church that was buried by the French inhabitants before they were deported by British troops in 1758. The bell was given to the Rollo Bay Parish in 1882 in recognition of the many parishioners who had French and Acadian roots..
