Geocache Description:

Well-stocked .30 caliber ammo box hidden in typical Highlands style.
Trails lead to close proximity of the cache.
Cache is within Wawayanda State Park in Highland Lakes/Barry Lakes, NJ.

Klizich and RamseyLtD were on a “recon” patrol of the area after RamseyLtD successfully captured an unsuspecting cache nearby. A prime location for an O.P./L.P (observation post/listening post) was found and a cache deposited “on guard” to gather intelligence on “troops” (flora-fauna-geocachers) in the area.

The cache is secluded to keep it secure from being discovered prior to its mission completion. Your mission is to “make contact” with the “friendly” (a flashlight is handy, but not required) and obtain an “intelligence sitrep” - success will reward you with a ‘smiley‘ for your excursion into "enemy territory"! Good luck! Please replace cache exactly as found, thanks!

The area can be approached from either of two directions, each approximately 1 mile in length via trails. - It is not suggested to bushwack otherwise due to terrain and marsh/swamp.

Other caches can be found in the area of each approach. Coordinates were taken using 2 sets of averaged readings from 2 Garmin 60CSX gps units. Some bounce may be experienced due to terrain and/or foliage, but should not affect the finding of the cache by much. Trail composition and condition vary a little. They have unofficial “blazes” by ATV’ers. A loud (almost fluorescent) green (from Wawayanda Road) and a faded orange “paintball” marked trail (from Breakneck Road) will get you to and from GZ.

This area is home to various species of wildlife. Black bear, coyote, deer, etc. may be observed or encountered. Unsubstantiated reports of mountain lions have been made. Snakes, both venomous (copperhead and rattlesnake) and non-venomous species, may be encountered in the warmer seasons. Please take appropriate caution and know what to do should you have an encounter.

Hunting is permitted, in season. Please wear orange safety attire if you are out during these times. Another safety option is to geocache on Sundays when hunting is not permitted in NJ.

The name referred to painting on the container which has worn off. At GZ it is recommended that you make noise and rustle the ground with a stick as slithering friends (in season) may find this spot desirable. Slight movement of item/s may be required to locate the cache...you’ll know when you get there.

Cell phone reception can be spotty, but generally no problem; your approach will make some difference (the “high“ road approach is better for signal than the “low” road approach).
