Geocache Description:

Bird Billabong is located roughly half way between Darwin and Jabiru off the Arnhem Highway. You need to travel about 4 kilometres along a dirt track from the Arnhem Highway. There is a signpost on the highway to Bird Billabong. A conventional 2WD vehicle should be fine in the dry season, however difficulties may be encountered in the wet season, where a 4WD may be required.

Bird Billabong, in the Mary River National Park, is a popular walking and birdwatching spot. A viewing platform at the water's edge is a great place from which to unobtrusively observe the billabong. There is also a pleasant two kilometre walk to the billabong, through scenic surrounds.

There is a car park which is located at the start of the walk. You will find an information shelter and if you look closely you will discover why the cache was named!

While your here take the time to do the walk. Once you have done the walk if you travel along the Arnhem Highway, towards Jabiru, for a further 5 kilometres, or so, you will come across the Bark Hut Inn which is a great place to stop and have a refreshing drink.

The cache itself is a small plastic clipseal container located along the walk. It is full of goodies and should be quite easy to find. Good luck and enjoy!
