Crossing the Narrows
 
The Ironton Ferry is a designated Michigan Historical Site in operation since 1876.  It is a four-car cable ferry that crosses a narrow point on the South Arm of Lake Charlevoix shaving miles off the drive around the lake to points on the opposite shore.  A prior captain of the ferry is listed in Ripley's Believe it or Not! for traveling 15,000 miles while never being more than 1/4 mile from his home over a period of years.  The fare is now a $3.00 each way, about the cost of the gas it would take to do the drive around at today's prices in an economy car!  Some people go for a ride over and back just for the fun of it.

Come and learn about this fascinating slice of history then use the information you learn to find the cache.  You can find the info and the cache even in the winter when the ferry is not running. In the summer, you can visit the restaurant at this site, have a snack and a cold one and watch the ferry and the boaters pass by.
