The Great Depression (1929-1939) was every bit as hard on Canadians as it was on Americans. There was no more work to be had north of the Canadian-American border than there was south of it, and many families lived on the verge of starvation. Making a horrible decade even worse, the climate went haywire. Farmers watched their crops either blow away or get eaten by swarms of ravenous insects. It was a time when both cash and hope were in short supply.
Moving on to the 21st century, these ravenous, hopping insects continue to devour, whether bonded in swarms or traveling alone. As an adaptable creature of the 21st century, these hungry critters have gone counter-culture and rather than continuing in their vegetarian way, they’ve become omnivores. They now prefer nibbling the human kind, finding them far more available than native vegetation, and juicier too.

Wenberg Snohomish Co. Park
is a 46-acre camping park with 1,140 feet of freshwater shoreline on Lake Goodwin. The park offers good fishing and a variety of other water activities. Located north of Seattle, the park provides urbanites weekend access to forested recreation without the necessity of lengthy travel.
Park Hours
Summer: 6:30 a.m. to dusk.
Winter: 8 a.m. to dusk.
There is a parking fee.
The park is open year-round for camping and day use. Some campsites are closed in winter.
