Geocache Description:

A magnetic nano

The Prestongrange Totem Pole is 32 feet high and was carved out of wood from British Columbia in Canada. It was raised in August 2006. The pole is topped by a raven from Prestonpans' coat of arms, a six-pointed star to represent the salt industry, a miner relating to the town's coal mining past, a teapot to represent pottery, and a fish and a boat to recognise the fishing industries.

The idea for the pole came from a local businessman, Gordon Prestoungrange, who had visited Canada. The pole was carved by two tribal Indians from Vancouver Island, who worked with local artists and schoolchildren on the project. The connection between Prestonpans and Chemainus, a saw-mill town on Vancouver Island, has also resulted in the mural trail, some of which surround the totem pole.

You can see a good photo of the totem pole at this website.
