John Stead: As the location has changed a lot since it was hidden with cuttings blocking the old path and access quite difficult I have rehidden this a bit nearer the parking places and hopefully in a way it will not accidentally get uncovered.
I think it far enough away to justify making it a new cache and it now includes a Munzee!

Geocache Description:

Small container by disused canal towpath

Leven Canal was opened in 1804, having been cut by the order of Mrs Charlotte Bethell, Lady of the Manor. The 3 1/4 mile long canal started at the River Hull and was constructed to allow barges to reach the granaries and warehouses at Canal Head in the village. One of the original two warehouses built at the canal basin in 1825 still remains, though it has been converted into a private residence. Like so many canals it fell into disuse and the lock into the River Hull is now culverted and the canal cut into two. It makes for a peaceful walk only disturbed by the occasional light aircraft from the nearby Hull Aero Club.

The towpath is on the North side of the canal and can be rather muddy, hence the terrain rating, though fishermen seem to prefer the other bank beyond the canalside chalets at Sandholme Bridge.
Sandholme Bridge may be found from the main road through Leven by following the sign to the airfield along West Street, turning left along Carr Lane just before passing into Little Leven.

A mile further along the Canal is a cache at Far Fox Aqueduct (GCMYHA) and still further is my own cache at Pulfin (GCRZX7)

The location is not ideal in summer for accurate GPSr readings (hence the difficulty rating). You may find it easier to get a good fix on a part of the towpath which is open to the sky and use an offset, i.e. note the direction and distance to the cache and pace it out.

Please take care with children as water is near, apart from the canal.
