This cache is a park and grab micro, so there are no trades to be had, just a log sheet. (be sure to bring your own pen) The reason I’ve placed it is to bring people to a beautiful memorial that is surrounded by history in my hometown. The cache is located in Pleasant Valley, NY. The site was an old mill and factory many years ago. When it was leveled, the town decided to do something special with the area. There is a beautiful veterans memorial here along with a building that was part of the old factory. This building houses a museum that is open Mondays 9AM-12 Noon, Fridays 1PM-4PM, and from June thru September it’s open on Sundays from 2PM-4PM. The site is right along the Wappingers Creek with a nice man-made waterfall. There are plenty of railings for safety, but keep track of small children. The modern bridge you’ll see is in the exact location of an old covered bridge that was erected in 1841 and finally dismantled and replaced in 1911. I’ve seen this town change a lot over the years, but I was really happy to see this small park opened. Parking can be had very near the cache, but it is along a very busy road. Best parking is in one of the nearby parking lots and then take a short walk along the sidewalk.
The monument is a beautiful tribute to the veterans of this small town. It celebrates not only those who gave their lives defending this great country, but also those who have served it from World War I through the current campaign Iraqi Freedom. That is why you will see some names more than once. There is even a friend of mine whom I met in kindergarten at a school a half a mile from here. He has served in Panama, Iraq, Afghanistan, and again in Iraq. There are several places to eat in town and you could even enjoy it on one of the several benches located here.
As I stated before, my objective for placing this cache was to introduce people to this area. Although it is a magnetic, nano micro cache, the hints will give away the location. So go ahead and try it if you want, but only read the hints if you want real spoilers. Nothing has to be moved to find it and no gates have to be passed through. It’s in plain sight but would not be able to be found with 4+ inches of snow. I have removed some of the log tape so you should be able to remove and replace the log more easily. Although this cache could be found very quickly, I suggest that you set aside a little time to enjoy this beautiful area and reflect on what these memorials really mean. Thanks and happy hunting.
