Trolleys and Tenacity Multi-Cache
SeattleSun: Sorry for taking so long to act on this one way or the other. I have had a hard time archiving the cache because so many people have enjoyed learning the history of this park. But it looks like life is just too overbooked for me to do proper maintenance, so I have to pull the plug.

This three-stage multi will take you to Greenwood Park, a relatively new Seattle park (too new for Google Maps to acknowledge) with several interesting features. It contains two distinct playgrounds, a large grassy area, and a sand pit with built-in digging apparatus for your budding construction workers.
The park is also of historical interest for two reasons, and you will learn about both of them in the process of finding this cache. The area was a stop on the Seattle-Everett Interurban Railway, which ran from downtown Seattle to Everett in the early 20th Century. The park was also the site of Greenwood Greenhouses from 1919 to 1999. The Nishimura family leased the property and ran the greenhouses until the family was removed from the property and interned by the U.S. Government in 1942. The property fell into disrepair during their internment, but they returned, rebuilt it, and eventually purchased the property, owning it until they sold it to fellow former-internees (and WW2 Veterans) Shig and Kunio Otani.
At the first waypoint, you will find a metalwork replica of an Interurban Trolley.
In what year was the first leg of the Interurban between Ballard and Bitter Lake completed? This is ABCD.
What is the number of the train prominently featured at this waypoint? This is EF.
In what year did the Interurban make its first trip from Everett to Seattle? This is GHIJ.
Make the following calculations:
K= A+F+G
L= E-F
The coordinates for the second waypoint are 47 41.ELB 122 21.JDH
Now make your way to the second waypoint, where you will find the information necessary to answer the following questions:
In what year did the Nishimura family sell their Greenwood Greenhouse property to the Otani brothers? This is MNOP.
In what did year did the Otani brothers return from serving in the military in World War II? This is QRST.
In what year was the Greenwood Greenhouse area cleared to build Greenwood Park? This is UVWX.
The cache can be found at 47 41.OOT 122 21.WUU
You will be looking for a medium-sized lock-and-lock container, semi-camoed with black tape. It will be filled with kid-oriented trinkets, a zipper compass, an LED flashlight and (for FTF, if s/he so chooses) a gift certificate for our favorite Greenwood toy store and supplier of excellent inexpensive swag.
Please do re-hide well as I want to be able to maintain a larger container rather than a micro, if at all possible. SunBoy always says, “I don’t do micros” and I know he wants to keep the cache fun for kids. If anyone comes up with better coordinates or has suggestions about the final hiding spot, please let me know.
Thank you for participating in our first cache hide!
