Geocache Description:

This cache is located near the location of the old Clarion Furnace.

The Clarion Furnace was build in 1828 on Toby Creek and was abandoned in 1852. It was built by Christian Meyers and was the first furnace constructed in Clarion County. The other furnaces in Clarion County were modeled after the Clarion Furnace. It was a cold blast, water powered charcoal furnace that produced Close Gray Iron. When you get to the site of the cache you will see there is not much left of the furnace, just a few piles of rocks and some charcoal. The view of Toby Creek is nice from here too!

The cache is in a tuperwear type container. To get to the site from Clarion go over Toby bridge towards Cook's Forest. After the bridge turn left onto the first road, you will be on State Game Lands No. 72. When you get to Toby Creek and the bridge across it there are a couple of pull off spots, park in one of those and good luck!

The cache is on State Game Lands, make sure to take proper precautions and wear orange! There is a rifle range a few miles from here so you may hear gun shots even when it isnt hunting season.
