*******BIG EYES IN THE WOODS******* Once upon a time, in a land we
now call Florida, lived a proud nation of people we have called the
Timucuans. They existed along a beautiful river, living off the
bounty of the land and sea. The main village was called Norocco.
Legend has it that 2 young boys from the village, were out in the
forest collecting wood for their family cooking fire. It was
growing late and getting dark as they scrounged the last few sticks
for the fire. One of the boys named Moka, happened to look deeper
into the woods and saw the most enormous pair of eyes he had ever
seen, staring back at him. He yelled to the other boy to run, while
he stayed behind to protect his friends retreat. As the friend
reached the village, he spread the alarm that something was in the
woods. When the brave Moka did not return, the men of the village
went out to search for him. Sadly, they did not find him, but what
they did find, were the torn remnants of his clothing and an area
of the woods covered with fresh blood. So whenever the members of
the village sat down for their meals, they would honor this brave
boy with a toast to his sacrifice in saving his friend. What was
their toast, you might ask? Why their toast was "To Moka", of
course. And now you know why we call this area Tomoka. So, cachers
beware of night time caching along the Tomoka River, "BIG EYES MAY
STILL BE HUNGRY"!!!! If you believe this one, I've got a nice high
rise bridge in Ormond Beach I will sell you real cheap. Maybe you
could make it a Troll Bridge.
