Geocache Description:

The cache was set up as part of the 2007 South Wales Event cache at Dare Valley Country Park. Dare Valley Country Park is situated immediately south of the Brecon Beacons National Park, and is within an hour's drive of the cities of Cardiff and Swansea, the English border at the Severn Bridge or Monmouth, and the sandy beaches of the Gower coastline. For many centuries Dare Valley was a green patchwork of meadows and woods. Then came the Steam Age and the valley was decimated. Winding towers and chimneys dominated the landscape and the meadows disappeared under tonnes of pit waste. When the coal industry went into decline the Colleries were abandoned, slowly decaying in a barren valley. But in the early 1970's the Country Park was created and there was a new awakening. The coal tips were reclaimed and thousands of trees were planted. Today the Dare Valley is green once more! The cache is located on the way to Dare You (GCJDNY), which is located above the Park at the top of the escarpment, but before the path starts to get steep!
