Buer ist auch heute noch ländlich geprägt. Da es weder große Industrien noch touristische Höhepunkte hat, blieb es immer ein wenig abgeschieden und beschaulich. Vielleicht gut so, denn so blieben im Ortskern noch viele Fachwerkbauten erhalten , die andernorts Neubauten zum Opfer fielen.
Wahrzeichen Buers ist der sogenannte „Bueraner Bleistift“, der schlanke Turm der St.Martinikirche, der 67 Meter hoch ist und schon von weitem zu sehen ist..:

AUF DEM WEG AM ACKERRAND ENTLANG UND AUCH DEN HÜGEL HINAB GIBT ES EINE GROSSE ZAHL TÜCKISCHER LÖCHER, DIE MAN BEI DER JETZIGEN VEGETATION NUR SCHWER SEHEN UND WO MAN LEICHT UMKNICKEN KANN: SEID BITTE VORSICHTIG!
