Miracle Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

LavaLizard: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

If the cache owner addresses the issues that lead to archival and contacts me within a reasonable period of time (6-8 weeks), it may be possible to unarchive the cache.

Geocache Description:

Camo'ed plastic jar, room for small items. Please BYOP.

Walk the neighborhoods of Oceanside and you will find the sidewalks marked with the curious name “O.U. Miracle.” Hundreds of walkways are engraved with this interesting name and many people wonder what, if any, meaning it holds.

Orville Ullman Miracle was a local contractor who founded the Miracle Construction Company. His association with Oceanside began in 1927 when he was the low bidder on the contracts to improve streets throughout downtown and the oceanfront.

His unusual name brought attention from many columnists including “Ripley’s Believe It Or Not”. His name was so familiar that a letter from South Africa simply addressed “O.U. Miracle, U.S.A.” was delivered to him.

In the early 1930’s, South Oceanside was the home of “Miracle Village”, a subdivision of single family homes that continues to be a desirable place to live to this day. O. U. Miracle remained interested in the upbuilding of Oceanside until his death at the age 78 at Oceanside Hospital.
