Take the road which goes to St Bernard’s Peak Hotel from the R617 between Underberg and Kokstad (approx 57 km from Underberg and 60km from Kokstad) in the southern Berg region.
Parking is available at St Bernard’s Peak Hotel which is approximately 30km from the R617 (S 30.03.370 E 029.06.458, altitude 1779m), but please speak to the receptionist at the hotel.
Behind the hotel take the red road heading uphill. Pass the dam and the old dam wall. Shortly thereafter a path goes off to the right and takes you across the river on a large flat slab of rock.
As you are going up away from the river, take a path to the left. Through a “gate” in the fence, you keep heading up on the right-hand side of the river (facing the mountain), to the cave.
Enjoy the Bushman paintings and the lovely view across the Mfelamadoda River valley and dam to the mountains on the other side, with a waterfall coming over the ledge above you.
