At the start , there is the large road that goes down to upper Lake Clementine . The start of this trail, however, is just to the left (north) of that road. Remember the road to this cache is relatively flat. So if you find yourself going down to the river or going steeply uphill, you took the wrong path. Here are a few waypoints so you can make sure you are on the right road: N38 58.998 W120 59.036, N38 58.988 W120 59.011, N38 58.985 W120 58.895.

In spring this trail has lots of nice wildflowers: penstemons, snow drop bush, buttercups, mountain misery, iris, fairy lanterns, chamise. The trail stays mostly on a 1640-1650 foot elevation line, so this is a nice, easy, mostly flat trail.

The mystery is why was the 1.5 mile road bulldozed out to this place many years ago. There are a few clues: an occasional fence post. Near the cache there are several oaks with very old steel cables attached to them. We don't know why this place is here.

Some years ago this trail was completely overgrown. Now several people have pruned the branches back. (I think the Meadow Vista Trail association contributed to some of the maintainence. Thank you.)

About a tenth of a mile from the end of the road, someone has cut a new trail that goes up hill to some abandon farms. To get to the cache stay on the level part of the road.

As always the standard foothill warnings about bear, mountain lion, ticks, po, and snakes apply. Because there can be the possibly of a mountain lion, do not run, do not hike alone, at dusk or at night. We cleared some of the bigger branches of po out of the trail. You should be able to avoid it.

Congratulation to ForestBloom on FTF!
