Cache and dash near a historic church in a quiet corner of West Somerset
Withiel Florey sounds like a character from a Thomas Hardy novel but is in fact a parish in the Brendon Hills of West Somerset. The name Withiel Florey means 'wood where the willow trees grow'. There is no village of Withiel Florey but there is a farm and a church. The cache is hidden on the OUTSIDE of the churchyard. It is possible to access the cache from inside the churchyard but please do not access it this way to preserve the sanctity of the location and because there are lots of nettles on the churchyard side! The hint presumes that you have walked through the churchyard, although it is possible to walk round the edge of it and avoid the stile. There is no need to move any stones. The cache is a medium sized clip lock box. The church is usually open if you want to have a look inside. There is space to park by the church but I’m not sure if you are allowed to park here, as it is part of the farmyard. I parked 250 metres north of the church up the lane where there is a lay-by/large passing place and some verge parking - N51 05.524 W003 26.892. Alternatively you could walk to Withiel Florey from Wimbleball Lake. There is a length of barbed wire on the ground near the cache.
