Nagyberek and the Whitewater
The Whitewater-marshland is situated in Hungary, closed to the southern coast of Balaton lake. The marshland borders to Balatonfenyves-Somogyszentpal-Taska. A long time ago, Nagyberek was a part of the lake, but the water-level’s fluctuation caused to be detached, then railway was built, and some town was founded. Most of the Nagyberek area is used by agriculture, sylviculture, and animal husbandry. There is a dinkey line used for economic goals, unfortunately for limited use only. The “Light railway in Nagyberek” cache showing economy and light railway is neighboring. The Whitewater-marshland is a courseless muskeg, it got water only by raining. The staff of the “Balaton-Felvidek National Park” takes care about the wildlife in the area. The regular, or not so regular water/marshland wildlife can be found there: teals, sweeps, jibs, spoonbills, other waterfowls, but if you’re lucky, you can see deers, roes, wild-boars. I recommend this cache to those, who’re ready to leave the surfaced road for seeing the untouched nature.
Approaching the cache
The cache is closed to a hunting tower, whereof the most of the marshland is visible. Start from Taska, and go 1.5-2 kilometers on the dirt road parallel with a dead dinkey line. Before you start, decide to go by car or by foot, because the ground strongly depends on the weather.
