Geocache Description:

In 1906 State Engineer Noble Whitford was commissioned by Governor Teddy Roosevelt to locate and document every canal feature in NY State. When it came to aqueducts and culverts, especially large culverts, sometimes he got it right and sometimes he got it wrong.

Was it an aqueduct or culvert located at the above coordinates? There is no marker to tell you the answer. There is only the three arches left. Arches means an aqueduct, right? In this case, yes and Whitford got it right. But he could not make up his mind about the name of it, sometimes it is the Flat Stone Aqueduct and sometimes it is Van Slykes Aqueduct.

May 19, 2007- I just found out that it is also referred to as the Plotterkill Aqueduct.
