Penosha Trail Excursion Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

South Lyon Trekkers: I came out today with Adventure Dog to pick up may caches in BSRA. These caches have been here a while and the area has changed quite a bit. These were some of the first caches I put out and I remember the hikes to them being somewhat long and tiring. They seemed pretty quick today and not as tiring. This cache had a good run, but it is farther from home than I care to maintain. A good park though. -SLT

Geocache Description:

This geocache is located in the Brighton State Recreation Area and offers miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horse riding. A motor vehicle permit is needed and daily permits are $6.00 for Michigan residents, $8.00 for non-residents.

Please keep in mind that all trails in the Brighton State Recreation Area are pass through lands open to hunting.

The Penosha Trail runs through the southeast corner of the park and is a five mile long, designated, hiking trail. This geocache is located along some trails that branch off the Penosha Trail. The trail to the geocache has a variety of elevation changes, some of which are pretty steep. The trails are defined. The geocache is just off the trail, but no bushwhacking is required. These same trails run further east, but run out of the park and onto private land. They do not seem to reconnect to the Penosha Trail. Best bet is to backtrack.

Parking is dependent on which trailhead is used. There are multiple entry points onto the Penosha Trail. The closest trailhead is at intersection #10 and makes it a .37 mile hike to the geocache. It's a nice area and a nice hike.

This geocache was placed to help promote geocaching during the DNR's Spring Fling event on May 6, 2007. This geocache is one of the first to be placed under the new agreement between the DNR and the Michigan Geocaching Organization (MiGO) which allows MiGO members to place geocaches in state parks without a permit fee.

This geocache was stocked with a good amount of trade items. Please trade fairly for other geocachers. Travel bugs and geocoins are welcome.

The container is a rectangular, clear, Lock & Lock box with some camouflage Duck Tape strategically placed.

We take great care in creating and hiding our geocaches. If ever one of our geocaches needs maintenance of any type, please do not hesitate to contact us by posting a log or by e-mail. We will promptly rectify the problem.

Don't forget Cache In Trash Out.

An unactivated travel bug was the FTF prize. It was claimed by Midget Izzy on May 5, 2007. Congratulations!
