Geocache Description:

This cache is located within an outer ramp of the partially abandoned cloverleaf of Route 15 and Blue Heron Drive. Terrain is very moderate and easy to walk on, just some mild grass and brush. This Cache keeps with my overall Transportation Theme.

Route 15 was bypassed in 1974 with a four lane freeway. It seems that the NJDOT had more lofty plans for this short 8 mile bypass. Many provisions were laid down for future expansion to interchanges, but none is more apparent then the interchange with Blue Heron Drive. This full cloverleaf is only partially used, the remaining ramps were graded and never paved. You will also notice that NJDOT cut into the natural rock landscape for these proposed ramps. Along the way to this cache, you will see drainage gutters meant for the paved ramps. The NJDOT also keeps these abandoned ramps well mowed and manicured for being completely useless. This location is very similar to "Unfinished Business" located in Chatham, NJ (GCH3HX). This cloverleaf however is partially in service and makes use of two leafs of the interchange.

Best location to park would be the Park & Ride built within the right of way of an abandoned ramp. From there you can easily walk down a grassy unused ramp to the cache. Good Luck Exploring!
