Geocache Description:

This is Junior 15 from ranger216's Geocache Population Explosion. It is on the edge of the wooded area, south of the Donaldson Community Cemetery. No need to enter the cemetery to find this cache. A macadam road, around the cemetery, is the easiest route to the cache.

This cache is dedicated to the memory of a young man who gave his life for his county. This young man was named Thomas McElhenny. He was a 15 year old drummer boy for the Great Army of the Republic (GAR)in the U.S. Civil War. He was part of Co.I 27th Pennsylvania Volunteer. His grave stone list that he was 15 years old and with Willimas Post 136, GAR. Not much more is known of this fine young soldier. Several local historians and myself have tried to research information on our Drummer Boy, but have found little to no success. I believe his unit became part of the Llewellyn Rifle unit and was later combined into another unit, but this information is uncertain. I plan to continue researching into this and will update this site as information becomes available.

My selection of Junior #15 from ranger216's Geocache Population Explosion was deliberate for the purpose of paying my respects to 15 year old Thomas McElhenny. If you wish to pay your respects to our Drummer Boy, his grave is about 75 to 80 feet due north of the cache at the approximate location: N 40° 38.323, W 076° 24.563.

This is a small cache (35mm), inside a little larger container to protect it from the weather. It contains only a log sheet WITHOUT A PENCIL OR PEN (please bring one with you).
