Geocache Description:

Creepy Cache.

It may sound morbid, but I think one of the Highlands best features are the abundance of cemeteries. They are beautiful. Although Cave Hill is one of the most popular, this cache is placed in honor of its not-as-fortunate neighbor, Eastern Cemetery.

Eastern Cemetery, aka Louisville Crematorium was the first crematorium in Louisville and the disintegrated smokestacks are still visible on the side of the Chapel. It is speculated that burials were conducted as early as 1835, records date back to 1843.

Eastern is now in an unfortunate situation. Due to the history (multiple owners who re-sold/re-used graves, bankruptcy, mismanagement, vandalism, general disarray) it is now un-endowed. Yes, haunting has been reported.

The cache is placed outside of the cemetery. YOU MAY WANT TO DRIVE TO GET NEAR THE FINAL. Although the cemetary is open 24/7 - please only enter during the daylight. Besides being creepy, there are many sinkholes, and the authorities make their rounds at night.
Make the following 3 stops in the cemetery and then go find your cache.
Stop 1. The posted coordinates (N38*14.695/W085*43.653) take you to the entrance. What year was the cemetery established? = ABCD
Stop 2. N38*14.776/W085*43.472 Approx. halfway through the cemetery you will see the stone Mosoleum. How many small square "windows" are there on the backside of the Mosoleum? = E. Now subtract 1 from E to calculate F.
Stop 3. N 38*14.861/W085*43.384 What year did QUAN pass away? GHIJ
To find the cache: 38*14.HCI 85*43.FEH

Also, PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE CHAPEL/CREMATORIUM in the far back of the cemetery. It has been abandoned and seems to be a makeshift place for homeless and/or mentally challenged people. Although the building is literally wide open, and it might be tempting to take a peek, DO NOT TRESPASS . It may not be safe.
