The Cat in the Hat has long been associated with Balboa Park and Literacy programs, and the year 2007 marks the 50th "birthday" of this popular book by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel).
Right now The Cat in the Hat is hiding in a secret place in Balboa Park, waiting to be found; but at one point in the past he was a BIG presence in the park that no one could miss. If anyone has a picture of the huge cutout of The Cat in the Hat on top of the Art Museum, it would be great if you could post it here. I think it was in 1986.
As a note of interest for Dr. Seuss fans, there is a wonderful statue of Dr. Seuss with the Cat in the Hat at the Geisel Library at UCSD.
Starting swag includes some The Cat in the Hat items and a mini book. If you take the book, please replace it with another tiny book (paperbacks are too large) so that there will always be a least 1 book in this cache for a literacy connection. Be sure to enclose the book in a plastic bag to keep it safe from the elements.
