Geocache Description:

The name of this cache refers to what you are looking for: date stones. Not those stones that you remove (delicately, I hope) from your mouth after eating dates (probably at Christmas), but granite stones with dates on them, set into walls around St Helier and St Saviour. You'll be walking along pavements, mainly on the flat, but there is one steep hill. If walking, you probably need to allow an hour-and-a-half to complete this cache.

The cache contains a puzzle that will give you the co-ordinates of a bonus cache (GC12P0T).

In some of the streets in St Helier, GPS readings are not particularly good. However, I have taken averages at these locations on two or three different days and am confident that they are reasonably accurate. None of the date stones appears to be anywhere near any other date stones, so there should not be any doubt as to what date you want.

The co-ordinates of the cache are those of the first stone, which is not far from the main shopping streets of St Helier.

The co-ordinates of the second stone are just round the corner at N49° 11.284' W002° 06.365'.

Once you have found these stones and noted the dates, you will need to use them to calculate the co-ordinates of the third and fourth stones. (The third stone is a 15-minute walk away from the second stone and the fourth stone is a few minutes' walk from the third.)

The first date is 1ABC.

The second date is 1DEF.

The co-ordinates of the third stone are N49° 11.CMN' W002° 05.BDA', where M = C - E and N = B - D.

The co-ordinates of the fourth stone are N49° 11.PAP' W002° 05.QRN', where P = A - C, Q = F + 1 and R = D - 1.

The third date is 1GHJ and the fourth date is 1K8L. (The third digit of the fourth stone might be a 3 or an 8, so I am giving it as an 8 and not using it in calculations.)

Now you have all the information you need to find the location of the cache, which is a 10 to 15-minute walk from the fourth stone.

The co-ordinates of the cache are N49° 11.GUX' W002° 05.ZJG', where U = H - G, X = K - L and Z = K + L - G.

The cache is a micro (the usual 35 mil film container) with a log sheet (bring a pen), a FTF pin and the puzzle that you'll need to solve to find Eat Me Leg 2 (Bonus Cache) (GC12P0T) (bring a pen and paper).

If you find the cache, but the puzzle is missing, e-mail me the two-character code that can be found under the lid and I'll e-mail back the puzzle.

Please note - access to the internet is needed to solve the puzzle so, unless you have access from your mobile phone, you will not be able to do Eat Me and the bonus cache in one outing.
