Man always wanted to fly like a bird!
Along times, many tried to fly biding wings to their arms. Unfortunately, our muscles aren’t strong enough…
This was the beginning of aviation all over the world.
To create an aviation museum in Portugal was an idea as old as the National Aeronautics History.
Many people had the project in mind and many times dreams almost came true but for this or for that it didn’t happen.
At last on the 21st February 1968 the dream became true by decree 48248 and the Aviation Museum is then created!
On the first July 1969, Portuguese Air Force Day, the Aviation Museum is inaugurated by the President of the Republic, Admiral Américo Tomás.
Two years later, on the 1st July 1971, the Museum opened to the public.
