Let's have our very own "Flash Mob" event!
If you are not familiar with the concept, this is from Wikipedia:
"A flash mob (or inexplicable mob) is a large group of people who
assemble suddenly in a public place, do something unusual for a
brief period of time, then quickly disperse."
You may want to google the term.
This cache event is inspired by iTrax and Foxtail, a husband/ wife
geocaching team in San Diego, CA. We will be joining about 20 other
cities who will be having a flash mob on May 20th. Here is a
bookmark list of the sites:
Flash Mob Bookmark List.
This Flash Mob is a Gathering of Geocachers. Only 15 minutes long!
You MUST be present and sign the log sheet DURING this time to
claim the event.
This event will be quite unique, creative, be the first of it's
kind (as far as we know of) and might be the fore-runner of a new
type of event. You're heard of mega-events? This is quite the
opposite in a variety of ways. Flash mobs have gathered for other
reasons but never before for geocaching. Come be part of this
historic event!
The event will last exactly 15 minutes, not one second longer. The
event will begin precisely at 2:00PM on Sunday, May 20th. This is
in an open public space, near the stage in Wingfield Park in Reno,
Nevada. The event will be highly organized and facilitated by
volunteers (that's you and me). At exactly 2:00pm (as determined by
the GPS clock) I, your host, will place a box for log sheets nearby
the coordinates. As you arrive, I'll hand you a "log sheet."
Participants will sign the log sheets (which will later become a
log book), to qualify for attendance and drop them in a designated
collection box (at the coords). Bring a pen.
I'll draw a name from the box of log sheets to raffle off the FTF
honors. When you arrive, grab a name tag.
At a designated time, we will toss out Hershey Kisses to all
attendance for the event "meal".
A few minutes later, we will take a group photo.
Then we we will call out the FTF raffle winner.
At exactly 2:15, the log sheets will be packed up and sealed away.
The event area will be vacated without a trace.
Events that happen after 2:15:01 do not count as part of THIS
event.
Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may
log the event.
ITINERARY: 1:45 - 1:59:59 Participants: Hang out around the
posted coordinates. Be nonchalant and casual. Look like a muggle.
Be a muggle. Don't look like a gathering waiting to happen. This is
part of the fun. We will seem to appear out of no-where.
2:00 Simultaneously: I will place the box for log sheets. This is
the signal that the event has begun! Log sheets, name tags, and
markers will be placed next to the box. Participants: fill out log
sheets and drop them in the collection box
Participants: fill out name tags with caching names and stick 'em
on
2:00 - 2:08 Participants: Mingle. Share stories. Brag. Trade swag.
Take pictures. Sign the log (sheets). CITO the local area!
2:08 Participants: Go over to the posted coords for Hershey's
Kisses. Hershey's Kisses are tossed out (as an official "meal")
Photographer preps to take group photo
2:10 Participants: Go over to the posted coordinates for a group
photo and assemble FAST. Listen to the photographer for directions.
Group photo is taken
2:12 Participants: Go to the posted coordinates. I will call out
the winners of the FTF honors.
12:14 One minute warning is called "It is now 2:14!" Participants:
Prep to leave, but don't "look" like your are prepping. (You might
want to "secretly" organize where you will re-form after
dispersal.)
2:15 EXACTLY Participants: Wait for it ... then LEAVE the area
(right at 2:15) and meet elsewhere if desired. The log sheet box
will be packed up (if you don't get it in time, too bad, you can't
log the event).
Suggestion: COME EARLY TO FIND PARKING. Parking can be difficult to
find. If you can't find parking you might miss the event!
There will be events just like this one occurring across the
country on the date. They are in:
California, Idaho(2), West Virginia, Massachusetts, Ohio,
Washington, South Carolina, and Oregon
