Swinging Bridge Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

2Stones: Another example of muggle activity at this cache. It's a shame that 14 year olds don't have something better to do.

Geocache Description:

This cache was originally placed as part of the (Grid 34) Geocaching Poker Run event held in Galeton on May 12th, 2007. You will need to bring your own pencil/pen.

Once there were several swinging bridges across Pine Creek and it's branches. Today, the last one is located at this site in Galeton. It was used as a foot path for 200 B&S railroad and 100 Emporium Lumber workers, most of whom resided on the opposite side of the creeks from their jobs from as early as 1881 to as late as 1980. In earlier days there were also several light "wagon bridges" crossing the creek at intervals.

Important: stay on the Germania Street side of the bridge! The bridge is sturdy enough to cross but the owner on the other side had problems with trespassers and is sensitive to intruders. No need to cross!

Take notice of the size of the tree next to the bridge. It is HUGE!

Please do your part and pick up any litter on your travels - Thanks!
