New Glasgow Shipbuilding Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Cache-tech: I have been looking at caches in the area that have been temporarily disabled for a while now and it looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future. If you do not plan on replacing/repairing your cache, please CITO any remains returning the site to the original state before you placed your cache.

Thanks for your understanding,
Cache-tech

Geocache Description:

This multi cache is located in downtown New Glasgow. The difficulty level is a little high due to the calculations that have to be performed. The original cache contents contain Canadian Tire cash for F.T.F., batteries, minor hockey pin, hockey tape, screw driver, and skate laces.

New Glasgow used to be a major ship building town with over 200 ships being built between 1821 and 1918. These ships were launched into the East River and sailed all over the world.
This multi cache will take you through the streets of downtown New Glasgow where located on the poles there are banners with the names, pictures, and year these ships were built. You will use these years to calculate the next coordinates. Be sure to bring a calculator with you or if you are from the old school, some paper and a pencil.

The above coordinates represent a place to park, but you can just find a parking spot anywhere downtown. Once you park find the town hall on Provost Street and write down the year New Glasgow was settled. Take the last 3 numbers of this year subtract 431 to fill in the missing digits in the coordinates below to find the banner for the GLASGOW BARQUE: N45 35.XXX W062 38.662

Take the last 2 numbers from the year the Glasgow Barque was built and add 32 to fill in the missing digits in the coordinates below to find the banner for the SS GEORGE McKENZIE: N45 35.208 W062 38.6XX

Take the middle 2 numbers from the year the SS George McKenzie was built and add 1 to fill in the missing digits in the coordinates below to find the banner for the STEINVORA SCHOONER: N45 35.357 W062 3X.X42

Take the last 3 numbers from the year the Steinvora Schooner was built and subtract 589 to fill in the missing digits in the coordinates below to arrive at a ship building dedication: N45 35.XXX W062 38.782

To find the final cache add together the years of the three ships found to the actual number of ships built (found on the dedication). To this number add 3005 to fill in the missing digits in the coordinates below to find the cache: N45 35.193 W062 3X.XXX

If you follow the instructions exactly you should have no problem finding the cache. There might be a lot of muggles in the area during the warmer weather. Good Luck.
