Geocache Description:

The Hitching Stone is a prominent feature on exposed moorland. Although the walk is short, the terrain is challenging and will be wet in all but the driest summers. Not suitable for buggies or toddlers.

The Hitching Stone sits on the moors, at height of 1180 feet. It is reputed to be Yorkshire's largest boulder and is estimated to weigh 1,000 tons, it measures 29 feet long, 25 feet wide and 21 feet high. It marks the boundary between Yorkshire and Lancashire, the townships of Cowling, Sutton and Keighley meet here, as do the wapentakes (an assembly or meeting place) of Skyrack (Leeds) and Staincliffe (Keighley, Settle, Skipton, Stainburn).

The cache was placed in early May when thre were lots of interesting wid flowers typical of damp peat moorland, see the gallery for photos.

Park at Wainman’s Pinnacle car park, cross the road and follow the wall and towards the stone. Stay on the RHS of the wall/fence.
