in our disclaimer.
Difficulty is for tree cover and access. The cache container is a small, camo-colored pill holder.
This is a microcache accessible only by canoe or rowboat.
The island is only about an acre in size and it's Andover's only town-owned island. The island features granite outcroppings which give the island its name. It is now conservation land, under the jurisdiction of the Town's Conservation Commission. Open to the public, the island is most easily reached by canoe or rowboat, launched from the Corporation's "pocket park" adjacent to the Foster's Pond Dam.
NOTE: You can launch your canoe or kayak here, but you have to park on Carter Lane, since the corporation does not want to block other guests from being able to launch their canoes, kayaks, etc.
There are trails on the island, but it will not take very long to explore. Make time to go fishing after finding the cache. There are some very big large-mouth bass here.
Recently, a group of Andover High School students chose the island as the site of their do-it-yourself version of the hit TV show, "Survivor". For more information about Foster's Pond and Rock Island, go to www.fosterspond.com
PLEASE DO NOT MOVE ANY ROCKS. The cache is not under anything. Please replace cache exactly as found.
