MAR-VA-lous TB Motel Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Run&Hike: When MAR-VA-lous TB Motel was muggled/disappeared in February we talked with the property owner about a new hiding place. With his permission, in mid-March the Motel was relocated and restocked with six TB's and two coins. Happily, one of the coins was taken by a cacher, because sometime in the last week the Motel went missing again. [:(]
This time it wasn't "muggled", but "vandalized"! [:0]
After a lengthy search we found the container top (in one place),the bottom (in another place), the green cache label (in yet another place), and the log and pen and ALL SIX TB's where they were disassembled and tossed in the brush and briars all along the trail. [:)]
Only the coin remains missing, and we assume it's "in someone's pocket". [:(]
On the bright side, in addition to the six TB's we recovered during the extensive search, we also found the Kim Possible TB, buried in leaves next to the ORIGINAL hide! [:)]
We can only speculate that a cacher accidently dropped her and she got "left out" of the original cache that disappeared! [:D]
We're convinced that this location is compromised, so we're sadly "closing the Motel". [:(]
Many thanks to the almost two hundred visitors who kept MAR-VA-lous TB Motel "occupied" for almost two years!

How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

This TB Motel is at the Maryland-Virginia line, south of where US 13 and US 113 split, and is accessible to both Northbound and Southbound cachers.

NOTE TO FORMER FINDERS: The original cache was muggled, and the replacement is in a new location on the same trail.

TRUCKERS: This is a very short walk from a popular Northbound fueling stop with parking.

The cache is a large camo'd Lock&Lock. The short trail to the cache (300 ft.) begins at 38 00.896 75 32.424.

Near the trailhead is an 1883 MD-VA Boundry stone (Benchmark HU0523). Prior to the survey that established this stone the Maryland-Virginia line was marked by large trees. Virginia's restrictions on marriage were much stricter than Maryland's, so Virginia couples would come--some by horse and carriage--to be married under these trees, which came to be known as Marriage Trees. There is a Historic Marker commemorating this in the Maryland Welcome Center just North of here.

The hide is on private land by permission, so it would be a great place to practice CITO. Please park on the side of the road and do not attempt to drive to the hide. Please rehide the cache as you found it.

This is a Travel Bug Motel, not a "treasure hunt", so the challenge was to place it where YOU can find it quickly and THEY won't notice it. Hopefully, we've done that, but if you don't spot it, the hint is specific. The coords may vary as foliage changes seasonally but will get you "in sight".

You are welcome to log in without taking or leaving anything. Please leave only TB's, Geocoins, or other trackables. We've seen TB Motels "fill up" with trade items, and we've seen Travel Bugs confused with "toys" and taken to collect or play with, so we'd prefer that you don't leave trade items.

If you leave a TB or Geocoin, please indicate the goal and briefly write it in the log. If you take one please be sure you can help with the goal and log that you took it. Please try to name or describe the TB you take or leave so the next person knows what's new or missing. Please log TB actions at Geocaching.com as soon as you can.
