Fishermans Retreat is on a island in the Snake River near Blackfoot. Wading will be required some of the time. The day I went to place the cache I got across with dry feet! The river was at 2.5 feet! When the river is at 3 feet or so there will be wading to do. So when the river is at 6 feet you will have to deal with 3 feet of water! If you start under the north end of the bridge, the shallowest part of the side channel is straight towards the cement plant (SSW). See the picture.
If the river is at 7 feet or higher I would recommend a boat . The south side of the island is accessable by boat even when the water is low!
If you wish to know how high the river is look at the gauge. It is on the south east bridge pier close to the green round structure.
.
There is camping, fishing and picnicking to be done in the general area. Be careful with fire the whole island has a lot of willows on it. Except for all the noise you could be in the back country. When setting this cache up I had a Goldfinch singing in the tops of the willows no more than ten feet away! A whitetail deer was up near the bridge when I left I must have driven it out when I was heading for the bridge.
