The above coordinates will
take you to an earthcache site located
in front of
Science
Central
,
Indiana's Center for
Science,
Mathematics, and Technology in Fort Wayne.
Inside,
there are many cool science
exhibits that are great learning fun for kids
of all ages! (The multi-colored smoke stacks make the
old City Light
& Power, Power Plant really
unique!)
Outside Science
Central, there is a nice little spiral rock garden...
(a perfect place for an
earthcache!)
All kinds of rocks are here; igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic.
You are
interested in the rock in the center of the spiral.
This is the rock you will need to
identify.
Metamorphic

Follow the steps below to figure
out
what kind of
rock it is.
1. a. Rock has visible layers - go to
#2
b. Rock does
not have visible layers - go to #3
2. a. Rock has dull luster (The rock is
SLATE)
b. Rock has
visible minerals - go to #4
3. a. Rock has granular appearance (The rock is
QUARTZITE)
b. Rock has a
shiny crystalline luster (The rock is
MARBLE)
4. a. Rock has thick, dark bands alternating between lighter
colored rock (The rock is
GNEISS)
b. Rock has
many flakes of platy minerals all pointing in the same direction
(The rock is
SCHIST)
To log this cache you must post a photo of you

(but NOT the
dinosaur!) in the background;
AND
provide this information:
1. Give either the rock's
height, diameter, or circumference.
2. What kind of rock is in the center of the spiral?
3. What dinosaur is located east of the rock
garden?
