IthacaDoodle: Picked this one up tonight as the area has changed, is seeing a lot more use, and the cache has no favorites after 13+ years.

This cache is named “Triple Hollow” because you are headed for the Ellis Hollow Nature Trail at the Ellis Hollow Community Center (in Ellis Hollow, of course), and are looking for a hollow log containing a cache filled with wonderful natural items.
This cache is located on the Ellis Hollow Nature Trail which is an easy 1-mile loop walk through meadows and woods, including hemlock and beech groves with some wonderful older trees. Trees marked with white blazes indicate the easy-to-follow trail, which was laid out by Eagle Scouts in the mid 1990s. GPS accuracy was very high with over 100 averaged calculations.
The trail begins at the edge of the Ellis Hollow Community Center (EHCC) property north of the tennis courts. The hardest part of this cache will be making your way across the meadow to the trailhead (difficulty raised from 2 to 2.5 for the summer because of the summer growth). Follow one of the herd trails or make your own way across the meadow, across the power-line right-of-way towards the new archway that indicates the trailhead.
There is ample parking at the EHCC, which is on Genung Road between Ellis Hollow and Ellis Hollow Creek Roads. The EHCC is a wonderful local spot with a community pool, a Bob Leathers playground, tennis and basketball courts, and a BBQ and picnic pavilion area. On the Saturday after Labor Day, it is the venue for the Ellis Hollow Faire, a fun and popular traditional country fair with a cake walk, dunking booth, quilt raffle, hay rides, bake sale, white elephant sale, lots of food, and many games for children.
Come and see the fair this year on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010
noon to 4pm!
Original cache contents are:
MT. ETNA LAVA Travel Bug (would like to visit other volcanoes around the world)
2 fossil camel/horse teeth
1 piece of petrified wood
1 fossil knuckle bone
3 trilobites in local shale
2 semi-polished pieces of turquoise
2 semi-polished pieces of fire agate from Arizona
1 specimen of selenite crystal
2 Herkimer diamonds
2 shark teeth
4 shells from Florida, and
1 additional piece of lava from Mount Etna in Sicily.
Please trade fairly and stick with the natural theme if you can. This cache is a part of our Ellis Hollow series which provides a cluster of quick, interesting finds in our little valley of the Finger Lakes region of NY.
CONGRATS to WOODLAND CLAN - they were the FTF for this cache on May 13, 2007!
