Geocache Description:

This is a 2 stage cache. You firstly walk from strandhill to killaspugbrone church. You head east towards the warning sign waypoint where there is a path across the bottom of the airport runway. Pay attention to the warning sign on approaching aircraft. From here it is a short walk to stage 1 clue source.

Killaspugbrone translates as the Church of Bishop Bronus, the son of a local chieftain and companion of St Patrick. A tooth of St Patrick fell out onto a flagstone here and Bronus (who died in 511AD) who retained the tooth founded the church on the spot. The church survived the Reformation by becoming Protestant, but was abandoned by the late 18th or early 19th century. It continued to be used as a burial site right up to 1961 when Thady Higgins was the last person interred there.

The cache is located along a seaward path with views of the ocean , Coney Island ,Benbulben and Knocknarea. This estuarine habitat holds large numbers of Brent geese , Golden Plover and many other wader and Wildfowl species
The cache contains the usual trinkets and a travel bug itching to commence its worldwide journey.
