Lunga is a peninsula just south of Oban. Recently there was a 'cache bash' held there and lots of caches were placed for the event. The area has some fantastic scenery and each of the caches is a feast for the eyes!
A typical scene on Lunga
One of the caches, Lunga Cache Bash Cache, is the reason for this new cache being placed. In the box there were a number of 35mm film canister caches with the idea being that each finder would take one and set it up in their own area (making a good advert for the Lunga caches!).
The Lunga Cache Bash Cache proved to be one of the hardest caches we've ever done! Coming at the end of a long days caching we decided to do a "follow the arrow" due to fading light. This resulted in crossing deep bogs, getting lost in a forest, climbing over a dozen fallen trees, getting scratched to pieces by angry plantlife and barbed-wire fences, climbing a ridiculously steep ascent up a mountain in driving rain and finally having to excavate the cache container from under a rockfall - a typical days caching really... It was great!
Sadly there aren't many such challenges caching in Edinburgh (apart from Roolku's Souvenir Exchange, the challenges tend to be more cerebral), nonetheless this cache has been placed in an area that's at least semi-wild, considering it's in the middle of a busy European capital city!
Without plotting the co-ordinates on a map you've probably already got a fair idea where it is. Please be careful in the area, especially when it's been raining. And bring your own pencil!
21st June 2009: This cache has now been muggled three times so I am making it a little more difficult to find! It is no longer a 35mm film container - it's something a little more slimline. When you do find it, please ensure it is properly re-hidden
19th August 2014: This cache has now been muggled more times than all my other caches combined! When you do find it, PLEASE ensure it is properly re-hidden. Many Thanks.
