Geocache Description:


This is the 3rd of a series of caches near a Welsh summit placed by the Chairman of West Bromwich Mountaineering Club on one of the regular visits that the club makes to the hills. WBMC is a friendly club with members (aged 6 months to 85 years) mainly drawn from a 25 mile radius of West Bromwich. It runs monthly coach trips (normally to the Lake District or Snowdonia), hostel and bothy weekends, European trips in summer and a winter week in Scotland. The club has it’s own hut in Nantgwynant with all mod cons and organises and navigation skills and family weekends there several times each year. It meets every Thursday at “The Globe”, Reform St. West Bromwich from 9pm (-ish) onwards. See www.westbromwichmc.co.uk for details of meets & events. Aran Benllyn (The Mountain at the Head of the Lake) is 2904 ft (885m) above sea level and is a couple of miles from the nearest road at Llanuwchllyn. It sits at the northern end of a superb high level ridge around 10 miles long. One of the advantages of visiting the area on a coach meet is that this can be easily traversed, usually from N to S, in a day ending up at the great little pub in Dinas Mawddwy. The cache is a 1 litre blacked out food box containing log book and pencil plus something to make the ‘First to Find’ go “Whoopee”. It is placed on its side in a cleft in the large rock outcrop about 20 paces S.E. of the summit, on the side of the outcrop away from the big drop.
