Fowlmead Country Park is the result of an £19 million pound
South East England Development Agency regeneration scheme
converting the slagheaps of the former Betteshanger Colliery off
the A258 between Sandwich and Deal.
The bleak landscape of shale and coal dust has been transformed
into a rolling panorama of woodland, country walks, small lakes,
horse riding facilities and a national standard cycle track.
