Geocache Description:

Here you will find one of the geological beauties of Tasmania. The Tasman Arch basically is what’s left of the roof of a large sea cave, which was created by the erosional forces of the sea over the last couple of thousand years.

The pressure of the waves compressed the air in the vertical cracks (they are called joints) and cracked the siltstones so that over the time a cave was created in the cliff.
Enjoy the view of the Tasman Arch as long as you still can, as soon (well within the next few thousand years but that’s soon for any geologist) the erosion will eventually force the Arch to collapse and another Devil’s Kitchen will be formed.
The sediments you see here were deposited during the Carboniferous and Permian geological periods (approx. 300 to 265 million years ago) when this area was a cold sea. Icebergs and streams carried blocks of rock, sand, silt and mud into this area. When the sea finally retreated an extensive sandy plain was formed. Vertical cracks formed due to drying of the sediments and local stress in the Earth’s crust.

For logging the cache you have to perform the following three easy tasks:
First: if you look at the arch that here are softer layers that are more heavily weathered and harder layers that are less weathered the harder not so weathered layers stick out a bit the other ones don't). Count the soft layers in the Arch (do not count all the layers down to the water table, just the arch, the best way to do it take picture and count them on the printout). Please do not post a picture of the Arch! (If you are not sure what I mean with layers have a look at wikipedia: (visit link) )
Second go along the path to the other side of the hole and take a picture of you together with the hole and post it. (If you send me an Email with a good excuse why you were not able to take a photograph I might accept your log without the photo but if I do not accept your excuse I might delete your log!)
And finally once there measure the distance to the given waypoint. You have to send the number of layers and the distance to me via Email using the Email function of the gc.com profile page. Please tick the box to send your email address along as I am not willling to chase your email address to send you a log confirmation.
I am happy for you to log your visit in anticipation of my confirmation; however, if I do not receive your email with the correct information I will be obliged to delete your log.

I just want to make one thing clear as some people do not read the entire task: You have to send me an EMAIL with the answers AND you have to post a photo of yourself (incl GPS) at the location or I will DELETE your log!

You can provide the answers (and log the cache) either in english or german, (that might help some tourists).

PLEASE do sent your email address along so that I can answer!
