Gateway to Apex Park Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Grand High Pobah: This cache has had a long run at a location that was not exactly ideal location. I never expected it to last this long. I am archiving it to open the space for a new cache placement

Geocache Description:

This is another cache in the Gateway series

Jefferson County Open Space has some delightful parks in their system. Caches have been placed in some of them. Most of those caches require a hike of some sort. This cache is intended to get cachers to at least take a look at Apex Park to see if they might be interested in further investigation and additional cache discoveries.

Apex Park is an interesting place both historically and from the standpoint of a very close secluded place to escape the city. This is the site of a wagon road to the gold fields in the 1860's and 1870's. Some traces of the road still exist further up in the canyon than this cache will take you.

The hike is easy and can be done is any kind of shoes. Please park in the lower Heritage Square parking lot. Coordinates are given in the additional waypoints for the location within that lot. Should you see any trash on your way to or from the cache, please CITO is out. That gesture will be appreciated by all concerned. The day I placed the cache, the area was spic and span.

The cache can also be accessed from Heritage Square by taking the footbridge across the creek at the upper end of that facility.

There is no need to hop the fence if you approach the cache in either of the suggested ways. The cache is on the trail side of the fence.

Remember that this area is home to wild animals and snakes. Act accordingly.
